Vladimir Skachko, political analyst, commented to Alpha News on the American envoy’s visit to Armenia and the goals of US policy in the Armenian direction. According to the expert, Washington’s main objective is to finally pull Armenia out of Russia’s sphere of influence and steer it onto the path of European integration.

“The goal of the American envoy to Armenia is absolutely clear. The geopolitical goal is to finally tear and pull Armenia out of Russia’s zone of influence, so that it fully reorients itself toward the European integration path, leaves the EAEU, and chooses the European Union, and if possible, NATO as well,” said Skachko.

According to the political analyst, the US is also interested in reorienting Armenia’s foreign economic ties and severing its traditional relations with Russia.

“The economic goal is to completely sever and reorient Armenia’s economic ties with Russia toward neighboring countries, or, again, toward that same European Union and other states. The cultural goal is to sever any cultural, spiritual, and religious bonds that connect Armenia with the post-Soviet space,” Skachko noted.

According to the expert, all US efforts in the region are aimed at changing Armenia’s foreign policy course under the pretext of normalizing relations with its neighbors.

“The price of betraying these interests is obvious. At the same time, all of this is presented as normalizing relations with the eternal enemy, Azerbaijan and, naturally, Turkey standing behind Azerbaijan. There is nothing else in all of the United States’ efforts in the Armenian direction,” Skachko concluded.
