The website of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) went offline on February 1 without explanation as the Trump administration suspended aid programs. Democrats are concerned that Trump may strip USAID of its status as an independent agency and put it under the State Department.

Alpha News spoke with the head of the Luys information and analytical center, Hayk Ayvazyan, on this topic.

“If USAID had closed 5 or 10 years ago, I would have considered it a very positive phenomenon. But since the website has closed now, it means that Armenia has been brought so far that USAID is no longer needed as a tool, it no longer serves the purpose for which it was created. That is, USAID has done its dirty work and now the US believes that it should be replaced by other tools. Nothing else is happening, the US is simply changing its toolkit in the war against Russia,” he noted.

According to Ayvazyan, the United States will soon begin to use other tools to fight Russia.

“That is, this is not a fight against Soros circles, not at all, the US simply changed its tactics towards Russia, which also required a change in the tools. This is also the reason for the closure of USAID. It is quite possible that USAID really ‘ate money’ over many years, there were corrupt deals, but I think that it no longer serves the US as a geopolitical tool, they will simply change it and invent new tools to fight Russia,” Hayk Ayvazyan concluded.

On the day of his inauguration, US President-elect Donald Trump signed more than 40 orders, including freezing USAID foreign aid programs for 90 days.
