Political legitimacy is similar to the legitimacy of a married couple, Viktor Soghomonyan, the Alpha News founder, PhD in Political Sciences, and Professor at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, told Alpha News.

“Legitimacy in the political sense is similar to the legitimacy that every married couple has. There are two types of legitimacy. The first one is the registry office paper, where people register a marriage. This is from a legal point of view, but it all starts with feelings. People love each other, decide to get married, and then go to the registry office. Imagine that these spouses have not lived together for a long time, there are no feelings left, one of them was even kicked out of the house, but they constantly wave a piece of registry office paper and say that they are legitimate, they are legal spouses. Political legitimacy can be called exactly the same way as it is called in the family,” Viktor Soghomonyan said.

He emphasized that the current government does not benefit either the state or the people.

“We have a government that acts on its own, that is, from which there are no expectations, which does not offer any new agenda other than the agenda of losses. We have a government that rules aimlessly, bringing no benefit to either the state or the people. The worst thing is that there are no more reactions or emotions either from the Diaspora, or from one of the most important national institutions, the Apostolic Church, or from the majority of the people, or from the political field, or from international partners, of course, except for the enemy represented by Azerbaijan and hostile Turkey. We are in a situation where government is government for itself,” our interlocutor said.

Soghomonyan also touched upon the flash mob on Facebook launched by members of the Civil Contract the day before.

“They launch a flash mob, posting a photo with a caption: a legitimate prime minister. That is, they literally show a piece of paper from the registry office and swear to God that he is the prime minister, but there is nothing more to say. There is nothing more to say about how good he is, doing this and that, making these and those changes. For too long now, we have been paying a huge price as a people, as a state, and as a nation for maintaining this power,” Viktor Soghomonyan concluded.
