Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, said at the opening of the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue that they “initiated the peace agreement with Armenia because they did not want an eternal war and had no intention of taking revenge,” Azerbaijani media report.
“…We offered Armenia peace, and this is an unprecedented case. In the history of wars, we will not find an example of countries reaching peace less than two years after their last bloody clash. Last summer, the peace agreement was initialed.
It was we who initiated the peace agreement with Armenia, because we did not want an eternal war and had no intention of taking revenge. Although, I think, emotions must also be taken into account. I always say that we took our revenge on the battlefield and should not go beyond that. Otherwise, the war will be endless,” he added.
