The Armenian community of Ireland is quite diverse. Initially, it consisted mainly of Western Armenians, but since the 1990s, mass migration from Armenia has begun, Aram Hakhumyan, a representative of the Armenian community in Ireland, told Alpha News.

“There are between 500 and 700 Armenians living in Ireland. They mainly live in Dublin, but in recent years our community has expanded, and Armenians have settled in other cities, particularly in Cork, Ireland’s second-largest city. Many IT companies have opened here, and the flow of specialists from Armenia to Cork has increased significantly. We have a large community there. We have opened a second Armenian school in Cork; the first one is in Dublin,” Aram Hakhumyan noted.

According to him, there are no Armenians in the legislative and executive branches of government in Ireland, but there are people who try to protect Armenian interests.

“As a small community, it is very difficult for us to organize everything; we lack resources. We dream of creating a community center that will become a support and unite the community. Another problem is the change of generations—ensuring the younger generation remains engaged in the life of the Armenian community so that it does not fade away among other nationalities,” Aram Hakhumyan added.
