What peace are we talking about if we have prisoners? – Laura Hakobyan

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has demanded that Azerbaijan submit a report on the Armenian prisoners held in Baku, setting a deadline of November 4. Alpha News spoke with activist Laura Hakobyan on the topic.
“Where did this issue come from? As we know, the Red Cross has officially ceased its operations in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan appealed to the international court to eliminate its obligation to submit reports,” Hakobyan said.
She emphasized that Armenian prisoners are currently in severe isolation.
“We have no information about their physical or mental condition,” the activist added.
According to Hakobyan, peace is impossible while prisoners remain in captivity: “What peace are we talking about when Azerbaijan is arming itself to the teeth and its television and press are speaking about ‘Western Azerbaijan’?”
When asked how Armenia plans to resolve the issue of prisoners to achieve peace, Hakobyan said, “All international political scientists and legal experts understand that there can be no peace between two countries when one side holds members of the other’s military-political leadership captive.”
