Youth Center of Russian Armenians’ Union prepares for Trndez

Today, on February 13, the Moscow branch of the Union of Armenians in Russia celebrates Tyarnndarach or Trndez (Purification). Preparations for the holiday are underway at the Union’s Youth Center.

In addition to cooking Ghapama, the program also includes traditional amusements, a theatrical performance based on the works of Hovhannes Tumanyan by the Varpet Bzez theater, a master class on Armenian ethnic dances, a master class on cooking traditional Armenian gata and halva, songs, and folk games.

Ghapama is an Armenian traditional dish made of pumpkin with various dried fruits, honey, nuts, spices, and rice. The dish in national traditions was served to the table as a symbol of abundance.
