Yerevan is de facto not participating in the work of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), and its future in the organization will depend on discussions among CSTO member states, Dmitry Peskov, the Russian President’s press secretary, told journalists on Friday.

“You know that Yerevan is currently de facto not participating in the CSTO’s work. You have heard Yerevan’s official statement on its position regarding whether participation in the CSTO is advisable. Certain steps are indeed set out in the statutory documents. From there, everything will depend on what kind of discussions take place within the organization,” Peskov told journalists, answering a question about how the Kremlin views the situation around Armenia and the CSTO.

Taalatbek Masadykov, the CSTO Secretary General, said earlier that the CSTO Collective Security Council may consider stripping Armenia of its voting rights and suspending the nomination of its citizens to quota-based positions. In 2024, Armenia announced that it was “freezing” its participation, although the organization’s charter has no provision for this, and stopped paying membership dues.
