The court has invalidated the decision to raise parking fees, and the Yerevan mayor’s office is preparing to file an appeal. Alpha News spoke with lawyer and senior partner of the Novalex law firm, Vahe Grigoryan, on this topic.
“The final court decision was totally expected and predictable because the statement submitted by the Mother Armenia faction of the Yerevan City Council examined in detail all the legal issues that we identified as the basis for raising parking fees.
It is noteworthy that in its decision the court clearly stated that unloading the city of Yerevan, including even the Center, cannot be a legal basis for raising parking fees. This is an important remark. This should be at least a legal lesson for all authorized state bodies that adopt regulatory legal acts,” he said.
Vahe Grigoryan reported that the mayor’s office decided to appeal the court’s decision without convening a meeting of the City Council.
“The mayor’s office has already announced that it will appeal the court’s decision to the Court of Appeal. However, there is a very important point here, since the defendant in this case was the Yerevan City Council, not the mayor’s office. Therefore, if there was no meeting of the City Council, on what grounds are they going to appeal this decision?” Vahe Grigoryan said.
