Pashinyan has been hostile to people for many years — Harut Sassounian
As a superpower, the United States pursues its interests in the world, President Donald Trump wants to be the one who will solve the issues that no one has solved before, Harut Sassounian, editor and publisher of The California Courier, said in an interview with Alpha News.
Speaking about US policy in the South Caucasus region, he noted that there has not been much progress yet.
“The US has started to engage a little bit in the Armenian-Azerbaijani issues, but there is no significant progress. As for Turkey, Trump has a high opinion of Erdogan and maintains very good relations, especially on the Syria issue. The US is trying to do everything possible to ensure that Israel, Syria and Turkey reach an agreement. I have learned that Syria is holding direct peace talks with the Israeli leadership. This is one of Trump’s goals—he wants to bring peace to the US, Europe and the world,” Sassounian said.
Touching upon the attacks of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on the church, Harut Sassounian stated that this has been going on for 7-8 years already.
“From the very first day, Pashinyan has been critical of the Church and the Catholicos, who also responded to him from time to time. After the 2020 war, the Catholicos said that Pashinyan should step down. Now we see that the relations between the government and the Church are deteriorating every day. They have already reached the point where not only disagreements have arisen, but they have also moved on to direct insults. You cannot accuse and slander a person without facts and evidence. All this should have legal consequences. I would advise the clergy to go to court, but I do not know if the court will dare to accuse Pashinyan. But I believe that it is necessary to warn him that they will defend their rights in court. But I will not limit this issue to the Church alone. Pashinyan has been taking a hostile position for many years towards every person—whether in the Diaspora or in Armenia—who does not align with his political view,” Sassounian said.
