Iran and Armenia discuss future of South Caucasus: emphasis on friendship and security

Ali Akbar Velayati, chief foreign policy advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader, held a meeting with Armenian deputy foreign minister Vahan Kostanyan, Iranian media reported.
The talks were focused on the future of the South Caucasus. Velayati said that the fate of the region should be decided solely by its member countries and expressed concern over the interference of external forces that could destabilize the situation. He underscored Iran’s commitment to peace and stability among neighboring states, including Armenia and Azerbaijan, adding, “We are closely monitoring the situation at our borders and are ready to respond to any threats to national security.”
Vahan Kostanyan, in turn, reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to strengthening its friendly ties with Iran and expressed readiness to continue cooperation for the sake of stability in the region. He noted, “The friendship between Armenia and Iran remains strong and we will not let it suffer.”
