Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated on CNN Türk that the construction of the “Zangezur corridor” will be fully completed within the next four or five years. According to him, the $2.4 billion project is already secured with external financing, and a consortium of two major Turkish companies has begun implementation.
“We’re not waiting for funding—it’s all been agreed upon. The construction of the 43-kilometer section will begin last, but the entire corridor will be operational within five years at most,” the minister said.
He also highlighted Turkey’s ambitious infrastructure goals. Within the country, 224 kilometers of railway are currently under construction, while Azerbaijan is restoring 150 kilometers near the Nakhichevan border and will build an additional 20 kilometers. The work on both sides is synchronized: passengers will be able to board a train in Kars and travel all the way to Baku.
Uraloğlu added that the new corridor will offer a shorter and more reliable route for the Turkic world, complementing the existing Baku–Tbilisi–Kars line, which is nearing its capacity limit. Discussions around the “Zangezur corridor” are ongoing, though specific details have yet to be disclosed.
