The UN has reinstated sanctions against Iran. Alpha News spoke with Aram Shahnazaryan, editor-in-chief of the Alik newspaper, about this issue.
“These sanctions are not new—they were imposed by the Security Council in 2006-2010 through resolutions. In 2015, they were frozen for 10 years as part of the signed Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which called for their complete lifting on October 18 of this year. Now, as a result of a process initiated by the EU three and with the direct participation of the United States, the Security Council has reinstated these sanctions. They include a number of measures aimed at limiting the development of Iran’s nuclear program and increasing international pressure,” Shahnazaryan said.
He noted that the sanctions cover three main areas. “These are restrictions on Iranian oil and financial resources, as well as its nuclear programs, and measures against human rights,” he said.
Shahnazaryan added that these sanctions have had a direct impact on Iran’s economy. According to him, the country’s economy is currently under considerable strain, and there are uncertainties regarding the outlook.
