For the opposition, debates specifically with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan carry a certain toxic element, Robert Kocharyan said in response to a question about why he refuses to participate in such discussions.

“As for the debates, I believe the head of my office gave a perfectly clear assessment. I essentially have nothing to add. Do you remember what the subject of the debate was, how this topic started? Let me remind you: it was about whether Karabakh had been surrendered since 1991. Do you think someone without an official document is ready to sit down and discuss that? Now let’s sit down and debate whether the Earth is round—are you ready? Personally, I’m not. And in general, there are people who become toxic. In this case, debates specifically with Pashinyan carry a certain toxic factor for the opposition. The current agenda of the debates you’re referring to is absurd, and no sane person would agree to it. That’s exactly why all three presidents responded accordingly,” Kocharyan said.
