Real Armenia’s heart is in Artsakh – Sergey Karnaukhov
Public figure Sergey Karnaukhov spoke to Alpha News about the creation of a European Integration Department under Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, relations between Russia and Azerbaijan, and the US position on the South Caucasus.
According to the expert, Armenia risks becoming a “donor” for Central Europe, losing its independence and ability to pursue a constructive domestic policy.
“There’s the real Armenia, and then there’s Pashinyan’s Armenia. The real Armenia is the one whose heart is in Artsakh—the Armenia that can dream, that has a future, and that will someday exist. And then there’s Pashinyan’s Armenia, whose direction and development are unclear, unfortunately. Modern Europe is a conglomerate of countries striving, at best, to live poorly, and at worst, to disappear. Ursula von der Leyen is doing everything she can to ensure that the EU first becomes a confederation and then a unitary entity. Armenia, due to its geopolitical location, has a very negative role: first, it’s a donor—meaning it will be drained; second, it would be nice if Armenia, along with other countries, sooner or later joined forces to fight against Russia.
Therefore, everything that follows Pashinyan’s concrete steps toward European integration is what we’re seeing now in Georgia. The constructive goal for Armenia is the development of small businesses, socially oriented companies, support for refugees from Artsakh, and the construction of new villages. Instead, they say, ‘Live off remittances from abroad, and we’ll handle the big politics.’ That’s the tragedy,” Karnaukhov said.
