Armenian side has no agenda for defending its own interests – Alen Ghevondyan

The Azerbaijani MP’s episodic statement fits neatly within a well-structured and justified national ideology, political scientist Alen Ghevondyan told Alpha News, referring to the Azerbaijani MP’s claim that Armenian territories allegedly belong to Azerbaijan.
“For the Prime Minister of Armenia, the priority is maintaining his own power—even in the face of existential threats to Armenia. The Armenian side has no agenda for defending its own interests,” he said.
Commenting on Armenian-Russian relations and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan’s recent statement that Russia remains an important partner after months of tensions, Ghevondyan noted: “There are diplomatic formulations that depend on political mood, context, and interactions. Formally, Armenian-Russian relations are of a strategic nature. That is, there is a threshold of irreplaceability. These relations imply obligations and responsibilities. In politics, we will ultimately be held accountable, but the realities have not changed. They will change, for example, if the issue of the withdrawal of the 102nd military base is raised.”
