Armenia’s security status now hangs in the balance: Movses Ghazaryan

Political scientist Movses Ghazaryan commented to Alpha News on the possible stripping of Armenia’s voting rights in the CSTO.

“Losing the vote in the CSTO merely formalizes Yerevan’s status as a country without full security guarantees. This is the result of Armenia’s own policy. Under Pashinyan, Yerevan is distancing itself from security structures, damaging Russia’s image, while not giving up real protection. By declaring the CSTO ineffective, Armenia is not withdrawing the Russian base, trying to delegitimize its partner while still retaining its assistance,” Ghazaryan believes.

According to the Alpha News guest, everyone stands to lose in the standoff between Armenia and the CSTO.

“There are no winners here. This is a blow to an effective system that proved its worth in Kazakhstan and in Armenia in the ’90s. Without partnership under Russia’s aegis, the post-Soviet region would long ago have been torn apart by external threats,” the expert emphasized.

“Yerevan is de facto creating a state of international-political limbo for itself, not for Russia or the CSTO,” the interlocutor concluded.
