Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, spoke at a briefing at the Azerbaijani Embassy in Brussels about Baku’s position regarding closer cooperation with the European Union on connectivity, energy, and regional security issues.

He described Azerbaijan’s current agenda in the South Caucasus as a transition “from victory in war to victory in peace.”

Hajiyev addressed the so‑called “Zangezur corridor,” which, according to him, “will have a transformative impact on the Eurasian transport landscape,” with Azerbaijan “playing an important role in this process.” He noted that work on the Azerbaijani section of the corridor is planned to be completed in 2026. According to him, Baku also “would like to see the European Union as part of this new transport architecture,” including within the framework of the EU’s Global Gateway initiative.

“For Azerbaijan, the war is over and the conflict is resolved. We must strengthen peace on the ground and make it lasting,” he added.
