The Armenian community in Canada strongly condemns the campaign being carried out against the Catholicos of All Armenians and the Church, Sevag Belian, Executive Director of the Armenian National Committee of Canada, told Alpha News.
“The current situation in Armenia is not simply an internal political problem, but a process of dismantling statehood, carried out under the slogans of democracy. In 2018, Pashinyan and his government presented themselves as democratic forces, deceiving and misleading the people. Today we see how the international community remains silent and tries to turn a blind eye to what is happening in Armenia,” Belian said.
According to him, the ruling authorities serve exclusively the interests of foreign powers, which leads the country toward destruction: “These so‑called democratic forces are merely trying to lead Armenia into the abyss. They serve foreign interests, first and foremost those of Turkey and Azerbaijan.”
Speaking about Armenia’s geopolitical choices, Sevag Belian emphasized that the country must break free from the trap of “Western or Eastern” directions.
“We are not in favor of Western or Eastern directions; we are in favor of an Armenian direction. We must be engaged in serving our own interests, rather than becoming a tool in the hands of foreign powers,” he said.
