The Jagiellonian University in Kraków is expanding its research into multicultural heritage. The university’s rector, Professor Piotr Jedynak, established the Sadok Barącz Laboratory of the History of Polish Armenians.
Sadok Barącz (1814–1891), after whom the laboratory is named, was a distinguished Polish historian of Armenian descent and a Dominican monk. He authored and published fundamental works on the history of the Armenian community in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth.
The initiative marks an important step in developing research on the history of Armenians in the Commonwealth—a community that for centuries helped shape the cultural and economic landscape of Central and Eastern Europe.
