The cost of medicines in Armenia plays a significant role in the budgets of middle-aged and older people. Around 25% of household budgets is spent on medicines, Narek Karapetyan, a member of the Board of the “Strong Armenia” party, said during a meeting with pharmacists.

According to him, about 3,700 medicines are currently registered in Armenia, while in neighboring Georgia there are more than 8,000. This points to problems in Armenia’s drug registration system.

Karapetyan also highlighted another issue—centralized procurement—assuring that if the party wins, the state will enable negotiations with major companies to import medicines that are not produced in Armenia.
