Armenia’s citizens must make their own choice in the upcoming elections: Timofei Ermakov
Military journalist Timofei Ermakov spoke with Alpha News about the pre-election climate in Armenia, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas’s remarks regarding a planned EU rapid response unit to be deployed to the country, and the conflict in the Middle East.
“The absurdity is this: a group arriving from abroad would supposedly be protecting someone from foreign interference. Perhaps they should step into the ring and fight each other, since they themselves are from the European Union, they are arriving in Armenia from abroad. It is clear, of course, that all of this is directed against Russia,” Ermakov said.
The analyst believes the upcoming elections in Armenia represent the country’s last chance to be saved.
“The situation has reached, if not a dead end, then the edge of an abyss, in my view. This is the last moment when we can try to change something. I am not talking about imposing any particular position on people, they must make that choice themselves,” the Alpha News guest emphasized.
Turning to the Middle East, Ermakov suggested that the conflict surrounding Iran could spill over into the South Caucasus under certain conditions. He also does not expect a swift resolution to the standoff with Iran.
“It is too early to speak of any conclusion to this conflict. In my view, we are only at the beginning of its most acute phase. I think this could continue for the next five years. How events unfold, we shall see,” Ermakov concluded.
