Maria Zakharova, official spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated at a briefing that Russia does not tolerate double standards on the question of preserving monuments, and that such actions are unacceptable anywhere. She noted that the country is well acquainted with acts of vandalism, but that there is always the possibility of reaching agreements and finding common ground.
Zakharova recalled that the trilateral agreements between Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan include provisions on the return and exchange of detainees, as well as on the careful treatment of architectural monuments and memorials.
According to her, should a request be made, Russia is prepared to provide the necessary assistance to its partners, but such matters, in her view, should first be addressed to Armenia’s leadership.
