Statements coming out of Russia are having a twofold impact on Armenia’s internal political scene, political commentator Hakob Badalyan told Alpha News. He noted that these statements have recently fallen short of reflecting the actual dynamics playing out behind the scenes, and carry an ambiguous message, functioning at once as a warning to official Yerevan and as an unintended boost to the ruling authorities’ election campaign.

“These statements from Russia are in practice providing serious support to the authorities’ propaganda while simultaneously giving them an additional argument for their counter-propaganda against the opposition,” Badalyan said.

He stressed that no concrete steps or decisions on Armenia’s part are yet visible that could account for such a high level of concern in Moscow.

“If one tries to understand the reasons behind these statements, it turns out there are in fact no substantive grounds for such alarm,” Hakob Badalyan added.
