Tigran Kocharyan, editor-in-chief of Alpha News, noted in a live broadcast that the Central Election Commission’s figures speak most clearly to voter activity: turnout is already 8% higher than at the previous elections.

“A significant portion of the population is ready for change and decided not to stay home, so as not to let others choose on their behalf. People came to the polling stations and fulfilled their duty,” Kocharyan stressed.

Commenting on a post by Iveta Tonoyan, spokeswoman for Gagik Tsarukyan, chairman of the “Prosperous Armenia” party, regarding a discrepancy of approximately 18,000 voters between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Central Election Commission figures on the total number of voters, Kocharyan noted: “This is a very interesting fact, the question arises: where did they come from in just one day? That is no small number; it potentially amounts to around 1% of voters. The authorities are likely attempting to resort to fraud here.”

Speaking about violations in the regions and Yerevan, he added: “The authorities are perfectly aware that in the capital they have little chance of securing a high percentage. So they are trying to discourage people, wear them down, and keep them from voting, which is an extremely ugly thing to do. And the number of recorded violations is simply staggering.”
