Mayor of Meghri arrested

Khachatur Andreasyan, mayor of the Meghri community, has been arrested in a case involving illegal use of subsoil resources and bribery. This was confirmed to Sputnik Armenia by the Anti-Corruption Committee.
News of Andreasyan’s detention broke the day before. It was reported that the case involved both giving and receiving a bribe. Seven other people were detained along with him.
According to the committee, Andreasyan was later arrested. The case concerns not only the giving and receiving of a bribe, but also the illegal use of subsoil or natural resources.
Arrest or house arrest has been applied as a measure of restraint for 6 other individuals detained as part of the same investigation.
The head of the Syunik regional division of the Eco-Patrol Service is also a defendant in the case. Khachatur Andreasyan has held the post of city head since May 2024.
