Church is the last national institution the authorities are trying to take over: Lulukyan
The issue of pressure on the Church should be raised more actively on international platforms, and the reaction of European institutions and politicians from various countries should be followed by consistent work, Samvel Lulukyan, a member of the Central Council of Armenians of Germany, told Alpha News.
“The Armenian Apostolic Church is the last bastion, the last national institution that the authorities are trying to take over. In this regard, it is very important that the pressure on the Church is talked about in various institutions and on different platforms. If you don’t sound the alarm, the pressure will not be strong enough,” Lulukyan said.
He also expressed concern over statements made in Armenia’s parliament about the Diaspora, stressing that the Diaspora has supported Armenia for decades, both politically and financially.
In Lulukyan’s view, the formulation “if the Diaspora is strong, then Armenia is weak” is absurd and a politically shortsighted approach.
