Azerbaijan does not show readiness for equal relations with Armenia: Kirill Kabanov
Kirill Kabanov, member of the Presidential Council for Civil Society Development and Human Rights of Russia, commented to Alpha News on criticism of Armenia’s current authorities by Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, and on the prospects of signing a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In the expert’s opinion, Azerbaijan considers itself the winning side and intends to keep demonstrating its strength and defending its own interests.
“In any conflict where there is a loser and a winner, the winning side will dictate its terms and continue to dominate. There is nothing surprising in this. I believe that today this is a demonstration that Azerbaijan has won and will continue to show Armenia its will. This is not a settled conflict, it is a won conflict. And the winning side will dictate its terms. As for the accusations of war crimes, I believe that such questions should be considered by the relevant international bodies,” Kabanov said.
According to the expert, there are no real signs from Azerbaijan of readiness for friendly, partnership-based and equal relations with Armenia.
“I do not see any friendly, partnership-based or equal signals from Azerbaijan toward Armenia. When we talk about what is happening today, one must understand that the winning side will continue to dictate its terms,” Kabanov concluded.
