Armenian fish-producing companies have faced problems since the ban on exports to Russia was introduced. According to Armen Karapetyan, Director of Max Fish, not a single batch of products has been shipped to Europe.
The main reason, he said, is the difficulty of transit through Turkey.
“The transit routes have still not been opened. In addition, we are still not exporting fish to EU countries. Exporting by air is expensive, and exporting by land is difficult due to obstacles related to transit routes,” the businessman said in an interview with Sputnik Armenia.
The businesspeople met with representatives of Armenia’s Ministry of Economy.
Earlier, the Council of the EU approved the European Commission’s proposal for temporary trade liberalization for goods from Armenia. The document proposes abolishing duties on 80% of the goods the republic exports to the bloc’s countries.
