On Thursday, more than ten flights operated by European airlines faced security threats, forcing most of the planes to make emergency or unscheduled landings. The mass disruption was caused by anonymous bomb threats, some of which were sent by email.
An Aer Lingus flight from Dublin to Rome was diverted to the Évreux military air base in Normandy, while a Wizz Air plane flying from Milan to Warsaw made an emergency landing in Vienna. Three planes bound for Sofia were forced to land in Bulgaria, and a LOT Polish Airlines flight from Warsaw landed in Brussels, where law enforcement officers decided against additional measures after an inspection.
Finland’s Finnair reported two false threats on flights to Rome and Vienna, while Czech authorities activated security protocols for four planes heading to Prague, although they assessed the risk as low. According to law enforcement agencies and the airlines, all the aircraft landed safely.
