Yerevan has not submitted an official application to join the North Atlantic Alliance, the official representative of NATO told the Russian Izvestia.

“Armenia has not received an official request to join the alliance. This is not a problem from our point of view, given the long-standing cooperation with other partner countries that do not seek to join the military bloc,” the organization said.

The alliance distanced itself from the recent statement by the head of the European Committee for NATO Enlargement Gunther Fehlinger, who called on Yerevan to join the organization.

“Mr. Fehlinger is not officially related to NATO. He is not a NATO employee, his views and opinions are his own and do not reflect the point of view of the alliance,” the official representative explained.

The Armenia-US joint exercise called Eagle Partner 2023 began on September 11.
It will last until September 20, with 175 Armenian and 85 American servicemen participating.
The main goal is to “stabilize security operations between the conflicting parties will be worked out within the training days by performing peacekeeping tasks.”
