Situation in Verkhny Lars is political pressure on Armenia, says political scientist

Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist Georgy Bovt commented on the situation at the Verkhny Lars checkpoint.

According to the expert, it may not be obvious, but there is hidden political pressure on Armenia from Russia.

“This is hidden political pressure on Armenia from Russia to hint to Yerevan that Moscow is not satisfied with something in its policies, that is, military cooperation with Western countries, a number of statements addressed to Russia from various Armenian officials, and Armenia’s non-participation in the CSTO activities, in particular, the last CSTO session,” Bovt said.

According to the expert, Russia is the most important foreign trade partner of Armenia.

“Armenia has no other routes or exits other than this road. Russia is one of the most important, if not the most important, foreign trade partners of Armenia. Therefore, this direction is crucial; if there is some kind of obstacle, blockage, or jam, it will directly affect the Armenian economy,” the political scientist concluded.
