We are very optimistic about the joint declaration signed by Prime Minister Pashinyan and President Aliyev and think this is very good news, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the South Caucasus and Central Asia Javier Colomina said in an interview with Georgia’s First TV Channel.

“We have provided great support for the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We support efforts aimed at normalizing relations between the EU, the United States, as well as Armenia and Azerbaijan in a bilateral format. It is really crucial for us to maintain stability in the Caucasus region,” he said.

Speaking about the foreign policy of the Armenian authorities, Colomina noted that Armenia has decided very clearly to make a shift in its foreign policy and take some distance from Moscow.

“The Armenians are free to take their own decisions. In my opinion, Armenia has already started to get closer to us, to ask for more cooperation, more political dialogue with NATO. We encourage whatever is decided by our partners that we believe is good for the stability of the region,” he added.
