Weightlifter Hovhannes Hovhannisyan becomes European champion among juniors

Armenia’s Hovhannes Hovhannisyan (61 kg) brought home the first medal at the European Youth U17 Championship in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Hovhannisyan showed a total result of 234 kg (107 kg in Snatch and 127 kg in Clean and Jerk) to win gold in his weight category in total, as well as in Snatch and in Clean and Jerk separately.

Moldova’s Dan Betza claimed second place with 229 kg (103+126), and Poland’s Maciej Tomaszewski placed third with 220 kg (99+121).
