Alexey Likhachev, head of Rosatom, to visit Armenia

Alexey Likhachev, head of Rosatom, will visit Yerevan on September 29. He announced this on Sputnik Live.

The agreement on the visit was reached at the meeting between Nikol Pashinyan, Armenia’s prime minister, and Vladimir Putin, Russia’s president, in Bishkek. The leaders discussed the construction of a new nuclear power plant in detail.

According to Likhachev, Armenia’s plans to deploy small modular reactors could shift toward gigawatt-capacity reactors. A substantive discussion on this is expected to take place in Armenia.

“The republic’s projected energy deficit could grow due to the use of data centers, AI systems and the development of the digital economy. We also see an optimistic forecast for energy consumption,” said the head of Rosatom.

He noted that even with an energy surplus in the South Caucasus, there would be substantial room for export, and that Russia is ready to help facilitate this.
