Commenting on Aliyev’s speech at the Yerevan summit of the European Political Community, political analyst Alen Gevondyan told Alpha News that the Azerbaijani president’s remarks had nothing to do with peace. According to him, Aliyev demonstrated that he is sufficiently independent and does not feel constrained in his decisions by various EU or PACE structures.

Asked whether Nikol Pashinyan had turned Armenia into an arena of geopolitical confrontation, the political analyst stressed that the prime minister himself says as much.

“Yes, and he says so himself. Nikol Pashinyan is saying: come and compete with each other on my territory. He invites EU representatives and several other major countries that are fighting against Russia in Ukraine and supporting the Ukrainians. In addition, Pashinyan is providing an opportunity for confrontation between Iran and the United States on Armenian territory by making the US a guarantor of the TRIPP project, while also trying to push Russia out of the region,” the expert said.

According to Gevondyan, Russia remains the key player in the region, holding firm positions: historical, economic, communicational, and military-technical – regardless of political rhetoric.
