Any decision of the Constitutional Court must, in a certain sense, contribute to the formation of constitutionalism: Vardevanyan

The Constitution’s objectives concerning national values, in turn, represent a leap, alongside the provisions containing references to our Declaration of Independence. Here, even in light of the Constitution’s provisions, this must be paramount. This was stated by Aram Vardevanyan, Vice-Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, during an open discussion meeting titled “The Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Armenia and nationwide interests.”

According to him, the Constitution is also based on unamendable provisions, which, in a certain sense, define the limit of change to the people’s Constitution.

“Any decision of the Constitutional Court must, in a certain sense, contribute to the formation of constitutionalism, that is, to the perception of the realization of constitutional values and norms in public life, in our lives. But when they waver to such an extent, a rupture arises, and we have now reached the highest point of this rupture, where the nationwide formulation is treated as a problem.

I presented several points of emphasis that are present today in the preamble of our Constitution, when that same Constitutional Court, in its well-known 2024 decision, explicitly stated that it was disclosing precisely the nationwide objectives of that decision, narrowly interpreting the preamble of the Constitution. Is that right or not?” he said.
