Armen Badalyan: No force will be able to form unilateral power in Yerevan
Drawing conclusions based on the results of the seven-day campaign for the elections to the Yerevan City Council, political strategist Armen Badalyan believes that none of the 14 forces will be able to form unilateral power.
“At the moment, it is not clear that forces with resources can gain 50+1% of votes, but the most influential player among them is the ruling force – the Civil Contract Party, whose campaign is more understandable because they offer Yerevan residents a deal: ‘tell me what you need, and I will do it’. Their slogan typically corresponds to the style of work of their candidate, and this is what is important during the elections,” Armen Badalyan said in an interview with Alpha News.
Badalyan sees three forces in the Yerevan City Council: the Civil Contract, the Mother Armenia bloc and the National Progress Party headed by former Mayor Hayk Marutyan. The political strategist found it difficult to say whether the Country of Living Party will become part of the city council, despite active campaigns and sufficient resources: “Having resources is not enough. It’s hard to say whether the party will pass or not.”
The Mother Armenia opposition bloc and the Country of Living consider the elections to the Yerevan City Council as an opportunity to change power. According to Armen Badalyan, the defeat of the ruling force cannot create opportunities for a change of power in the country.
“The elections in Yerevan do not provide mechanisms for a complete change of power in the country. To do this, you need to have a foreign policy “goodness”.
In addition, it is necessary to have effective support, but society does not have this potential to change power throughout the country. And one should not think that if something succeeded in Yerevan, the same thing will happen, for example, in Sisian, where they sang and danced a few days ago, while there were armed Azerbaijanis 100 meters away,” the political strategist noted.
It should be noted that the elections to the Yerevan City Council will be held on September 17, with 14 political forces participating: 13 parties and 1 bloc.
