Russia’s Foreign Ministry accused Yerevan of breaking its promise not to take steps against Moscow. Maria Zakharova, official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said at a regular briefing that the current foreign policy course of the Armenian authorities will sooner or later lead to Armenia’s irreversible involvement in Brussels’ anti-Russian agenda.

According to her, the Armenia-EU summit declaration shows that, with the approval of the Armenian authorities, the country is being drawn into aggressive Euro-Atlantic mechanisms. She also noted that Russia was outraged that Armenia gave a platform to terrorist Zelensky.

“Zelensky took advantage of this incomprehensible courtesy on the part of the Armenian hosts to try to emerge from political obscurity and air his tiresome Russophobic attacks,” she said, adding that no one in Yerevan stopped Zelensky, who had promised to strike Moscow on May 9.

Zelensky’s visit to Yerevan showed the Armenian people what fate the European Union has in store for them, Zakharova said.

“It was precisely Zelensky’s visit to Yerevan that showed Armenian citizens the future the European Union has prepared for them. I applaud standing. No, this is not a mistake. This is a real gift – to show the Armenian people a Brussels-fed creature who has truly become the embodiment of what the European Union does to so-called young democracies,” the diplomat said.
