Russian journalist and political scientist Andrei Sidorchik commented to Alpha News on the words of Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov about the decision of the European Union to provide military-technical assistance to Armenia:

According to the expert, the actions that Armenia is taking today cannot but affect the Armenian-Russian relations.

“Military-technical cooperation is never multilateral, especially when you cooperate with one side, which at the same time opposes the other side. Accordingly, if you make a certain choice and move in that direction, it has consequences. Of course, the actions that Armenia is taking today cannot but affect the Armenian-Russian relations.

Therefore, Peskov explained very correctly that this could not but cause consequences, it could not be considered as some kind of neutral action. It is obvious that Armenia today, by its policy, by its actions in the field of security, is certainly moving along the Ukrainian option. How far this process will go is a matter for the Armenian leadership, but Mr. Peskov has very clearly indicated that we would not want this,” Sidorchik said.

At the same time, the political scientist noted that Moscow is taking precautionary measures against Armenia.

“If we are talking about any radical actions, then Moscow is not taking any radical actions against Armenia. Some of the sudden movements that are taking place now are an initiative of Yerevan.

Today, Russia does not consider this a threat, there are many other issues. However, accordingly, precautions are being taken in case of a possible continuation of Armenia’s actions,” Sidorchik concluded.
