Armenia wins 9 medals at the 2026 European sambo championship

The 2026 European Sambo Championship concluded on May 17 in Tbilisi, with the Armenian national team delivering one of its most successful tournament performances in recent years, finishing third in the overall medal standings, wrtites to sportaran. com.
The Armenian sambo athletes claimed 9 medals in total: 2 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze. The team finished behind only Russia and Ukraine, ahead of Belarus, Georgia, Bulgaria, and Azerbaijan.
The highlights for the Armenian team were the gold medals in sport sambo. Karen Sargsyan in the under-58 kg category and Gor Harutyunyan in the under-88 kg category were crowned European champions, with both athletes advancing through the tournament with confidence to bring Armenia its two gold medals.
Three more Armenian sambo athletes reached the finals in combat sambo, claiming silver medals. Mayis Nersesyan in the under-64 kg category, Arsen Avedisyan in the under-71 kg category, and Leonid Melikyan in the under-98 kg category all took silver. Bronze medals were won by Boris Shatveryan in sport sambo, and by Narek Goginyan, Gevorg Azatyan, and Mkhitar Temuryan in combat sambo.
