Armenian authorities plan to seize the company “Gajegorts” from its owner. The owner is a relative of Hayk Sargsyan, a former pro-government MP.

The company in question is a Yerevan alabaster plant, whose privatization was, according to the prosecutor’s office, carried out illegally at the time. The state now intends to seize the plant’s shares.

According to the newspaper Hraparak, the plant’s owners are the Kalantaryan family, with Armen Kalantaryan, the executive director, being Sargsyan’s father-in-law.

A few months before the June 7 parliamentary elections, Sargsyan fell out of favor and was not included on the ruling Civil Contract party’s list. Another of Kalantaryan’s daughters was married to Narek Sargsyan, nephew of Armenia’s third president.
