Around 49,000 migrants have crossed the border between Morocco and Spain, according to the Cadena SER radio station, citing the country’s national security department.

“Over the past 24 hours, around 49,000 people have entered Ceuta,” the report states.

It is specified that at least 7,000 of them are minors. Ceuta’s total population is around 83,000 people.

There are deaths among the migrants. As of now, 24 deaths are known, but the number is steadily rising, as a large number of people attempted to reach Ceuta by swimming.

Spain’s Ministry of the Interior has promised to deploy troops to the area, while the country’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, has pledged to mobilize all necessary resources to normalize the situation.
