Ashot Ghulyan: I do not rule out that we have serious problems with keeping the determination of the political elite under control
The dominant part of the political elite continues to follow the values of the liberation struggle, but I do not want to rule out that today we have serious problems with keeping the will and determination of that same elite under control, Chairman of the Artsakh National Democratic Party, former NA Speaker Ashot Ghulyan told Alpha News.
“It is hard to give an unequivocal assessment to the activities of the political elite. You know, it is one of those differences that today there are several movements in Artsakh, including Artsakh Security and Development Front coordinated by Ruben Vardanyan. I don’t see anything wrong when people try to institutionalize public political activism.
But we must understand that in our situation, we cannot have several solutions. No matter how much we try to adequately respond to today’s situation with public activism, it is the state that finds answers to people’s questions in such situations.
I think that the majority of the political elite here continues to follow the values of our liberation struggle dated back to 1988, which allowed us to face all the challenges of the past years. But I don’t want to rule out that today we have serious problems with keeping the will and determination of that same elite under control. Artsakh Security and Development Front pursues the same goal, because we all talk about consolidation, but when the time when we have to give up something in order to achieve this collective unity comes, each of us starts thinking about our own political peculiarities. In Artsakh, we need to clarify what the struggle means,” Ashot Ghulyan said.
The former official appreciated the activity of the Diaspora Armenians, aimed at raising awareness of the Artsakh situation in their countries. According to him, today the people of Artsakh are encouraged by the wave of these protests, which may be slow, but, in his opinion, it affects the relations between Azerbaijan and other political actors.
