Speaking with Alpha News, Ukraine’s former MP Oleg Tsarev commented on the aggravation of relations between Azerbaijan and Russia and emphasized that Azerbaijan wants to make further decisions on regional policy without considering Russia’s position.

“At the moment, everyone is wondering where the reason lies, because a huge number of Azerbaijanis have big businesses in Russia and earn big money. That is, Azerbaijan should value and cherish ties with Russia, yet it seems that Azerbaijan is only looking for reasons to create a conflict. Perhaps this is due to the fact that Azerbaijan wants to make further decisions on regional policy without considering Russia’s position. Russia was originally expected to serve as the transport operator for a corridor running through Armenia, managing it to protect the interests of Armenia, Iran, and Azerbaijan. Russia was supposed to act as a third party. However, it now appears Azerbaijan seeks a different representative—someone foreign, not Russian,” Tsarev said.

According to Tsarev, Azerbaijan is deliberately dismantling its relationship with Russia to make decisions that go against Russian interests.
