Baku offers Yerevan energy, and a railway through Armenia was discussed with Trump: Aliyev

In an interview with state TV, Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, said that the project to run power transmission lines from Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan through Armenian territory is ready.

According to him, Azerbaijani specialists conducted an analysis on Armenian territory and identified possible sites for installing pylons. Aliyev also “warned” Armenia about a possible energy crisis in connection with the closure of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, and noted that Baku is ready to provide the country with “an additional source of electricity.” He also stressed that the plant is outdated and poses a potential threat to the entire region, recalling that Azerbaijan and Turkey have repeatedly voiced concern about this issue at international forums.

At the same time, Aliyev said that he had discussed the construction of a railway through Armenian territory with Donald Trump, President of the United States, as part of the TRIPP program. According to him, it “became clear” from that conversation that construction should begin this year.

In the same interview, he emphasized that the creation of the “Zangezur Corridor” was Baku’s initiative, and that connecting the main part of Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan has been a long-standing dream that is now nearly realized.
