CAESAR howitzers will break structure of Armenian armed forces, says military expert
Speaking with Alpha News, Russian military expert Konstantin Sivkov commented on the news that Armenia will purchase CAESAR self-propelled howitzers from France.
“In terms of the type of weapon, I am skeptical about such systems. This is a weapon that is suitable for a certain type of warfare. So I am not sure it would be suitable for mountain warfare for the simple reason that it has very weak technical, bulletproof, and anti-fragmentation protection. The only main advantage of this weapon is its maneuverability, but in a mountain war where movement is limited, I doubt it will be suitable,” Sivkov said.
According to the expert, the supply of these weapons to Armenia is a demonstration of rapprochement with the West.
“The very fact of supplying these weapons to Armenia, which is equipped almost exclusively with Russian weapons, breaks the structure of the Armenian armed forces since the fire control system of these howitzers differs from those used in Armenia, that is, Soviet and Russian-made systems. Therefore, I believe this step is an action aimed at showing that Armenia continues its rapprochement with the West, in particular with France, which today takes a particularly hostile position towards Russia,” Sivkov said. https://alphanews.am/ru/postavka-gaubits-caesar-v-armeniyu-lomaet-str/
