Cornerstone-laying ceremony held in Fresno for monument to Monte Melkonyan

A cornerstone-laying ceremony for a monument to Armenian national hero Monte Melkonyan was held at the Armenian “Ararat” cemetery in the American city of Fresno.

The event was attended by prominent representatives of Fresno’s Armenian community, members of US Armenian organizations, and numerous compatriots. Armenians of different generations gathered at the site where a monument to one of the outstanding commanders of the Artsakh Liberation War will soon be erected.

The idea, put forward by Karo Khachikyan, physician and public figure, was supported by the city’s Armenian community. Many Armenians from Fresno joined the initiative. Construction of the monument is now a shared cause for local Armenians.
