Ethnic Code: Aras Ozbilis

The next guest on Alpha News’ “Ethnic Code” is the former player of the Armenian national football team Aras Ozbiliz.

“For me, being Armenian is an identity, and this comes from my parents. I remember my father telling me that when I was a child, my sister Selina was taken to a hospital in Istanbul, and they were surprised, what kind of name is this? That day, my father said, ‘We cannot and will not live here.’ After that, our whole family moved to Holland,” Aras Ozbiliz said.

He remembers how, as a child, his parents constantly took him to Armenian churches and told him who Armenians were.

“Our parents constantly took us to Armenian churches, told us our history, who we, Armenians, are, and what important things we have accomplished. All this is our identity, and it is very important to me,” Ozbiliz said.
