The retaliatory strikes between Israel and Iran have continued for the fifth consecutive day. Iranian authorities have reported more than 220 casualties from Israeli attacks, the majority of whom were civilians. Israel reported 24 casualties from the Iranian retaliatory strikes.

Alpha News spoke with Aram Shahnazarian, editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper Alik, regarding the ongoing conflict.

“Iran and Israel are in a de facto state of war. And I would say that over the past 48 hours, the war has entered a completely new phase, with both sides not only striking at objects of military and political importance but also trying to strike at each other’s infrastructures, whether economic or industrial. This can paralyze social and public life. In addition, yesterday Israel attempted to strike Iranian radio and television to deprive the country of the ability to communicate its position globally. However, broadcasting was quickly restored after the attack,” Shahnazarian noted.

Speaking about Israel’s true goals of provoking a war, he noted:

“Israel has announced its goals. It wants to completely destroy Iran’s nuclear program, preventing the country from developing or acquiring nuclear weapons. However, experts argue that Israel’s main objective is to instigate a change of power in Iran and destroy it as a unified state. This stems from Israel’s strategic interests in the region.”
